Helping your son/daughter adjust to college — Part III

The last two days we’ve offered tips on how you can help your son or daughter as he or she heads off to college. But we’re certainly not the only ones with helpful hints.

Dr. Drew Pinsky, a board certified internist, author and television personality, offers advice on what you should talk to your children about before they leave for college, including drugs and alcohol, sexually transmitted diseases and healthy eating.

Need a bit more? Several college administrators gave New York Times writer Jacques Steinberg suggestions on what you can do to help.

U.S.News & World Report also published a top-10 list of things you can do, which includes exploring the academic offerings of the school he or she will be attending, splurging on some furniture for his or her room, and deciding in advance how often you should call.

Of course, if you have any suggestions, please let us know, and we’ll share them with everyone.
